Discover the Munich Culture

Worldwide, Munich is known for its famous and endless types of beer. So it is no surprise that many people spend their evenings, after a hard day of work, in one of the many “Biergärten”, which are located around every little corner of the city.

If you ask locals about "a must do activity" in Munich, they will always tell you to go a local Biergarten to drink a “Maß”, which means 1 litre of beer, and to eat a traditional Bavarian meal, like a crisp roast of Bavarian suckling pig with dumpling and pickled cabbage.

It is also very common to wear the traditionally Bavarian suit, which is called “Lederhose” for men or “Dirndl” for women while spending some time in the “Biergarten”.

Furthermore, for locals, there are not 4 but 5 seasons in Munich, the 5th being the Oktoberfest season. This event is bringing together people from all over the world at the Theresienwiese in Munich. For this event, the 6 biggest breweries of Munich build their enormous tents all around the fair and sell their beers, with traditional Bavarian food. By the way, the Oktoberfest began already in 1810 and is celebrating the marriage between King Ludwig I and his wife Therese, and has been held every year since.

According to some inside info, the people from Munich might always look busy, but they are always in a good mood. Their doors are open, so take the opportunity to embrace the Bavarian comfortableness and hospitality. On a sunny day, the English Garden, the shopping streets and the parks are full of people enjoying the summer breeze, strolling around and drinking a coffee in one of the many cafes in the centre of Munich.
